Back To School With Buckhead Midtown Brookhaven Macaroni Kid

Ga. Sales Tax Holiday, Last Chance For Summer Break Fun...

July 30, 2015
Wow. Blink an eyelash and summer break is over. (Can you blink an eyelash?).

Although we did a LOT this break  - including several road trips, vacations, and a multitude of camps...it still feels like yesterday when the kids were "released" from school for summer vacation. We were all excited about what was to come - days at the neighborhood pool, sleep away camp in North Carolina for my 10-year-old, sleepovers with friends, an extended family trip to Florida. And so much more. Oh, and how can I forget sleeping in. The early alarm clock on Monday is going to be a big shock for everyone in this household, but especially for those boys. No more lazy mornings or sleeping 'til 11am.  I don't think the dogs are going to be happy either.

We're trying to pack in a little more summer break fun before Monday morning, when my kids are back to school. The calendar for the Atlanta metro area school system is all over the place. Atlanta City Schools are back on Wednesday (Aug. 5th) and Dekalb and Fulton County schools on Aug. 10. I'm jealous of those of you who have an extra week!

Today we went to our school for "Sneak-a-Peek".  We met the boys' teachers, learned about some new after-school clubs, and of course caught up with lots of friends who we didn't get to see over the summer. I think both kids are actually pretty excited about getting back to school. Just minus the homework.

Still, we have 6-7 weeks left of summer! So I'm hoping the year will start of easily enough, so that we can enjoy some evenings grilling out at the pool, soaking up some warm sunshine (minus smog), and making a few more quick roadtrips on the weekends. It's doable.

And as much as I do love summer break, I'm going to hope this school year doesn't fly by the way this vacation did. My oldest is in 5th grade now. His LAST YEAR of elementary school. That's something I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around. (INSERT SAD FACE.) I imagine I'm in for a lot of changes this year too.

I hope all of you have had a restful and/ or adventurous summer break, and are ready for the "new year" ahead.  (For those of you with infants and toddlers - your time will come!)

Have some fun, and make sure to keep up to date on what's happening in our community right here with BMB Macaroni Kid!
