Plan Ahead For Labor Day Weekend, Fall is Coming & More

Buckhead Midtown Brookhaven Macaroni Kid - Your Weekly Events & Activities Newsletter

August 28, 2015
I'm sitting here wearing fuzzy socks and a sweatshirt over my pjs - though my air conditioning is set at 76 degrees. What's up with that?  It's still (barely) August, and the 58 degree temps on Tuesday morning really threw me for a loop. I'd just returned from the hot and steamy Florida Keys on Monday night, so the last thing on my mind was digging up sweatshirts for the kids the next morning. It's a little unusual this weather - but it's been absolutely beautiful. With fall, however,  comes allergy season  - and I'm not quite ready for that. I'd like a couple more weeks to enjoy the pool before I start hoarding Kleenex and Claritin.

It does look like we have a good bit of rain in the next week's forecast. Hopefully those are just summer showers, and the storm that's brewing in the Caribbean won't turn into something bigger, or head our way. It's definitely hurricane season now - I still can't believe it has been ten years since Katrina devastated my hometown (New Orleans).

The kids' sports are underway, and I know our schedule is packed between baseball and lacrosse practices and games. We've been in school nearly a month already too! Many of my northern friends are still enjoying summer break - while I, on the other hand, am trying to make fall break plans (we have that for a week in Cobb County).

I officially wrapped up my summer traveling, however, this past weekend, with a visit to Hawks Cay Resort in gorgeous Duck Key, Florida. It was a great opportunity to visit with close to 40 Macaroni Kid publishers from across the country. Fabulous "mom" time at fabulous resort (that also happens to be very family-friendly). Stay tuned for an in-depth review next week. The Keys are a great place to get away when the weather really starts to get chilly around here.

Things are slower than normal this weekend in terms of events...I think everyone is gearing up for Labor Day Weekend, fall festivals, and corn mazes & pumpkin patches, many of which open in the next week or two. Look for a list of those "attractions" in next week's edition!

WINNER!

Congrats to the winner of last week's giveaway:

Steve B. won 4 tickets to Atlanta Symphony Orchestra "A Salute to American Classics" - Sunday, Sept. 27th at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. Enjoy the symphony under the stars - and kids under 12 go free (lawn seats) with adult ticket purchases too! CLICK HERE for more information.

Have a great week and stay tuned for next week's edition as we "transition" towards fall events!
