Atlanta Science Festival T-Shirt Design Contest

Georgia Students Encouraged to Submit Designs Depicting the Future by March 1st

February 4, 2016
The Atlanta Science Festival wants to encourage young Georgia artists to get involved with its weeklong science and technology event by entering its annual student T-shirt design contest. This year’s theme is “Meet the Future.” Georgia students (grades 6-12) are invited to submit a T-shirt design that depicts the future and how science and technology will impact it. “Future” could be defined as how the world as we know it will change, for example. Or, perhaps it’s the student’s personal world and how he or she envisions their future.

Designs must be submitted in digital format and should use the provided design template (available on the contest website). Entries must be emailed to tshirt@atlantasciencefestival.org and be received no later than 11 p.m. EST, on March 1, 2016.

PRIZES!!
The winner will receive two tickets to the event “Alton Brown Live: Eat Your Science” at the Fox Theatre on April 9; an on-stage award during the Festival’s Exploration Expo on March 26; and 10 T-shirts for family or friends.

The design will be judged on artistry, creativity, originality and the ability to communicate a clear and positive message about the future and how science and technology will impact it. The winning design will be determined by a panel comprised of Atlanta Science Festival staff, board members, sponsors and partners.

“We’re excited to launch this year’s T-shirt design contest,” said Meisa Salaita, Ph.D., executive co-director of the Atlanta Science Festival. “Last year’s contest was extremely successful and a true testament to the imagination, talent and curiosity of the next generation. This year’s theme, “Meet the Future,” is the perfect way to showcase the power of our local youth and encourage them to dream big and have fun while doing it—a notion that is at the heart of the Atlanta Science Festival.”

About the Atlanta Science Festival
The third annual Atlanta Science Festival is a weeklong public celebration of local science and technology that culminates with an all-day interactive Exploration Expo at Centennial Olympic Park. Scientists, experts and educators from local schools, colleges, universities, museums and corporations will uncover mysteries and explain discoveries through hands-on activities, facility tours, stimulating presentations and riveting performances for curious people of all ages. Our mission is to celebrate the inherent integration of STEM/STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) in our lives today, share the impact they have on our community, and inspire us all to wonder about our future. The Festival, which runs March 19-26, 2016, is produced by a collaboration of science, cultural and educational institutions, including the founding partners Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology and the Metro Atlanta Chamber.
