My family had the opportunity to attend our first supercross event this past weekend at the Georgia Dome. We had absolutely no idea what to expect, so we went into the event with excitement and wonder, knowing that our boys (ages 8 and 4) would likely be mesmerized!

Upon arrival, we saw an arena filled with dirt tracks which included obstacles for the participants to show off their speed and skills on their motorcycles. The setting was buzzing with excitement and we couldn't wait for the first race to begin.

Because we were sitting quite high in the arena, we were unable to really understand what was being announced on the speakers, but we had a great birds-eye-view of the arena and had fun watching the races. The stunts we're exciting, wrecks even more so, and my 8-year-old's eyes were fixed on the track. My 4-year-old wasn't quite as enthralled, likely because we were so far from the action, but we all still had a good time.
Following are some tips I wanted to share if you're planning on going with your kids to this event:

  1. Make sure you have hearing protectors for each of your children, even if you don't think they'll need them. We only had one set as our youngest has never been bothered by loud noises, but it is super loud in the arena and I think he would have liked to have had them.
  2. Unless you have a pass for one of the parking lots (yellow, blue or red), parking is a bit difficult. Set your expectations that you're going to pay around $30-$40 to park.
  3. On the way in, my 4-year-old asked me if there was going to be fireworks. He HATES fireworks! My response was that I didn't know. Well, now I know. They shoot off a lot of fireworks at the start of the event while they're announcing participants.
  4. If you or your little ones don't like loud noises, I'd get there 30 minutes after the start. The first 30 minutes is comprised of the fireworks, announcing about 20 of the participants, the national anthem and more fireworks. Next time we'll be sure to skip that part, or maybe grab dinner from the concessions at that time.
  5. Depending on how high up you are sitting, you may want to bring a set of binoculars to get a better view of the action.
