Summer Camps at Atlanta History Center / Margaret Mitchell House

Are you looking for a summer camp to round out your child's school break?
Atlanta History Center summer camps are both fun and educational. Writing camps are available for older children and teens at Margaret Mitchell House, and a variety of more general camps take place at Atlanta History Center's main campus.

SUMMER WRITING CAMP: FROM PAGE TO STAGE: PLAYWRITING

Ages 9-11 and 12-14
July 24-28 at Margaret Mitchell House

Delve into the world of theater, journeying from an inkling of an idea on the page, and from the page to the stage. Develop your own unique voice and experience first-hand the joy of hearing your words, characters, and situations come to life as you create a script for a live audience. Bravo!

Margaret Mitchell House writing camps provide an opportunity for youth to discover the power and excitement of writing while honing their skills in a fun, interactive environment. With 10-15 participants per camp, each young author receives individual attention while learning how to create meaningful prose through a variety of techniques like stream-of-consciousness writing, games, journaling, free verse poetry, and other forms.

Fees:
Fees include all writing supplies and field trip expenses.
$325 per week for Atlanta History Center members at the Family Membership level
$375 per week for nonmembers

Hours:
Monday through Friday, 9:30 am – 5:00 pm. Students may be dropped off after 9:15 am and must be picked up by 5:00 pm. Extended childcare is not available.

SUMMER HISTORY CAMP: MUSEUM THEATER

Ages 6-8 and 9-11
July 31-Aug. 4 at Atlanta History Center


History comes to life through drama, comedy, music, and intriguing characters and storylines. Throughout this fun week, work with our staff of historians, playwrights, and actors to create your own history-based theatrical production. We will wrap up the week with a grand opening of campers’ plays for family and friends.

History comes to life as Atlanta History Center summer campers explore the past through games, historic simulations, performances, crafts, and hands-on activities throughout our exhibitions, historic houses, and gardens. The entire 33-acre campus is our playground! With fun new themes each week, campers enjoy a variety of immersive camp experiences all summer long. Space is limited, so register early.

Fees:
$250 per week for Atlanta History Center members at the Family Membership level
$300 per week for nonmembers

Hours:
Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Students not participating in extended childcare may be dropped off after 8:45 am and picked up between 3:45 pm and 4:00 pm.  Extended Childcare: Morning session, 8:00 – 9:00 am, and/or afternoon session, 4:00 – 5:00 pm daily. There is a $25 additional charge per session.
Each week concludes with a special Friday afternoon event featuring a display of campers’ projects.
