This week, my daughters and I attended a performance of “Mother Goose” at the Center for Puppetry Arts. A “Theater for the Very Young” show, it is a very cute and interactive show for toddlers and preschoolers (age 2 +).
We have now gone to at least five different shows at CPA, and this one was by far the most interactive for my young daughters. Mary Mary, the star of the show, does a great job performing nursery rhymes like Humpty Dumpty, Little Bo Peep, Jack & Jill, and Wee Willie Winkie. The little ones adore her and participate by rhyming, counting, singing, and clapping along with each nursery rhyme as they help her piece together clues to solve the mystery of the missing Mother Goose, who is the mayor of Rhymeville.
Be sure to stay in your seats when the show ends, so you can hear an informative explanation of how the puppeteers make the rod and shadow puppets move. Plus, don’t forget to visit the Create-A-Puppet Workshop™ to build your own “Jumping Cow Shadow Puppet” and even have a chance to play with it behind the light screens.
Guests are invited to come 30 minutes before the performance to enjoy pre-show enrichment activities in the lobby including hearing some your favorite nursery rhymes and coloring a special puppet that you can use during the show! Pre-show activities are free of charge.
