Don't Miss Alliance Theatre's The Wizard of Oz!

Playing Through April 14, 2019

Do you want your child to experience magic from the Land of Oz? Well, look no further and just follow the yellow brick road to the Alliance Theater’s musical production of The Wizard of Oz, based on L. Frank Baum’s beloved children’s story.

We were so excited to see Niki Badua’s debut performance at the Alliance Theater. She won the 2016 Suzi Bass Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in "Miss Saigon". We first saw her perform at the Grand Lake at Serenbe last spring. Her incredible singing voice was perfect to play my daughter's favorite serenading mermaid, Ariel, from "Disney's The Little Mermaid".

Niki now takes on the lead as Dorothy, and beautifully sings the iconic song, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”.  We loved seeing other actors from previous Alliance shows as well. It was fun to see how most of the actors played two or more roles, including singing and playing different instruments throughout the performance.

While the musical remains true to the classic story, we were most intrigued by the set design, props, and music style used for the performance. The stage set transitions to show Dorothy’s journey from Kansas and to Oz, and then meeting the wizard with her friends was very cool and creative. The costumes and munchkin puppets, made from common household items, gave us fun ideas for our home play theater. Don’t worry, the Wicked Witch of the West won’t scare your little ones. We were all giggling and singing along as we traveled to Oz with Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, and Toto.

Definitely go check out this fun show and enjoy the magic of Oz, sprinkled with bluegrass tunes!
