The Atlanta Science Festival Continues Through March 23

Don't Miss out! Read About Our Experiences So Far...

By Arlynn Filomeno-Suarez March 14, 2019

Have you attended any Atlanta Science Festival events yet? Since the kick off on March 9, we've attended several fantastic hands-on science events with our daughter. And guess what? There is still a week left to explore and experience the wonders of science in and around the Atlanta metro area.

Our Atlanta Science Festival adventure started with Mathapalooza! in Decatur. The Ebster Recreation Center was jam-packed with students and parents participating in math puzzles, math games, math court, brilliant math art, and performances. Our favorite activity from the event was a mind-blowing mathematics magic show by Matt Baker, Professor at Georgia Institute of Technology’s School of Mathematics. Since Dr. Baker is an award-winning math wizard, you better believe his magic tricks jump to a whole new level of fun and awesomeness!

We also stopped by GA Tech’s PoWeR Lab for a fun afternoon demystifying what makes us run fast and the electricity required to flex our muscles. We also saw robotic prosthetics and high-tech gadgets that help stroke patients walk.

At Georgia State University's Clarkston Campus we got hands-on with chemistry experiments. It was so fun to be in a chemistry lab again and see my daughter mesmerized by chemical reactions, and decoding secret messages with luminol. Yes, luminol, the chemical used by investigators to detect blood at a crime scene. My daughter was completely fascinated with the electrochemistry experiment where she created her own colorful niobium jewelry pieces.

At Forest Park, we took a Science Behind the Scenes Tour of The Clorox Company. We were not only impressed by their products beyond household cleansers, but also the high tech manufacturing equipment throughout the facility. Touring with the company's team who oversee the robotics and numerous automated systems in action was incredible. We were in awe as we observed the science and technology behind all the products that keep our world clean and healthy.

The Exploration Expo is March 23!

The Atlanta Science Festival culminates in the Exploration Expo, Atlanta's biggest family science event. Thousands of curious kids and adults descend upon Piedmont Park to experience the wonder of science with 100 hands-on interactive science booths, live science demos, and shows from local organizations, universities, and companies. Attendees can experience everything from touching a human brain to driving an undersea robot. (11 a.m.-4 p.m. March 23. Free. Piedmont Park, at the intersection of Charles Allen Drive and 10th Street, Atlanta.)
