10 Ways to Celebrate Mother's Day Weekend in Atlanta

Mother's Day weekend is here, and whether you choose to enjoy some alone time, or spend it with the family, here's a list of area happenings (and discount offers too!). Be sure to check event websites and facebook pages for weather updates.


1) Take in a festival - See our event calendar for upcoming festivals in the metro, which include Chastain Park Spring Arts & Crafts Festival, Tiny Houses at Atlantic Station, Dunwoody Arts Festival, Sweet Auburn Springfest and more!

2) Enjoy a FREE museum day with the family. The Second Sunday of each month is FREE admission day for the whole family at the High Museum of Art with special family-friendly programming. Info HERE.  It's also FREE family day at Museum of Design Atlanta (Design Club Day) right down the street! 3) Are you a sports-loving mom? We all know Mom is the real MVP. This Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, celebrate Mom Hall of Fame style at the College Football Hall of Fame. Enjoy special gifts and opportunities to relax all day, including a complimentary mimosa, chair massages and manicures provided by Pamper Perfect, and free admission with the purchase of a regular price admission ticket. 4) Enjoy a day at the ballet!  Atlanta Ballet closes out the season with performances May 10 to 12 at Cobb Energy Centre. Atlanta Ballet is one of the premier dance companies in the country and the official state Ballet of Georgia. 

5) Spend it with the animals (not just your kids!) - Spend it with the animals (not just your kids!). Spend Mother’s Day at Zoo Atlanta with a special offer just for Mom! On Sunday, May 12, mothers enjoy FREE admission with purchase of any regularly-priced child’s or adult’s general admission. Regular price general admission tickets may be purchased online and in-person at Zoo Atlanta Admissions. 6) Tour beautiful gardens - Visit Atlanta Botanical Garden and see the new "Imaginary Worlds: Alice's Wonderland," featuring giant topiary-like sculptures, known as mosaiculture. The focus of the exhibition is the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland. Look for a 27-foot-tall white rabbit, a giant chess board, a sly Cheshire cat and, of course, Alice herself. Info HERE. 7) Enjoy free Admission for mom at the Children's Museum of Atlanta - FREE admission for mom on Mother's Day! Celebrate the most important women in our lives with special programming all about moms and grandmothers! On the CMA stage, our Imaginators will lead special themed Story Time and Music & Movement programs! Then, venture to the Art Studio to participate in a “Mom & Me” self-portrait workshop or to the Build it Lab to create a homemade gift straight from the heart. Info HERE.

8) Enjoy a dance with your son at the Mother/Son Dance at Lynwood Recreation Center - What better gift to give Mom for Mother’s Day than to take her dancing? Building on the success of the Daddy/Daughter Dance held every February, the City of Brookhaven Parks and Recreation Department is launching its first-ever Mother/Son Dance event. Info HERE.

9) Bring your kiddos to Toddler Takeover, an arts festival for the very young. The Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and High Museum of Art invite you to the fifth annual Toddler Takeover at the Woodruff Arts Center. This one of a kind experience developed for children from birth through 5 years old will feature international theatre for the very young performances from South Korea, UK and Australia, performances of the Kathy and Ken Bernhardt Theatre for the Very Young, infant and toddler tours, art-making at the High Museum of Art, performances with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and much more. 10) Step back in time at the Georgia Renaissance Fest - Step inside a recreated 16th-Century European village. Music, comedy, and knights! May 11 & 12 - PIrates and Pets Weekend. Pirates of all ages will find treasure in special contests, like the Pirate Costume Contest and Walk The Plank Trivia. It’s a weekend full of fun piratical hijinks.
