We were invited to preview Garden Lights, Holiday Nights at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. We saw it for the first time in 2012 and try to visit every year. After its 9th year, the light show has grown more spectacular! It's no wonder Garden Lights, Holiday Nights has become Atlanta's favorite holiday traditions and ours.
What a gorgeous setting to stroll and wander through twinkling light displays, enjoy hot chocolate or cider, and roast s'mores over an open fire pit with family and friends. My daughter says she feels like she's visiting an enchanted forest. It's wonderful to see families so delighted as they admire the holiday model train display or decorate the snowman and gingerbread photo stands to capture fun memories together.
The areas we never miss include the dancing “Orchestral Orbs” on the Great Lawn with festive holiday tunes and the skyline in the backdrop, and the serene Ice Goddess. We were completely captivated strolling along the Canopy Walk through the three dimensional curtain of lights which are choreographed to music and sounds.
This year the display features a new twist on the popular three-dimensional curtain of light and the return of many of the giant characters from this summer’s Imaginary Worlds: Alice’s Wonderland.
Here are the TOP Highlights:
- “Nature’s Wonders” returns to Storza Woods with its curtain strings of multi-colored lights suspended from the treetops over the Canopy Walk. This year’s display includes new music, including pop hits as well as holiday tunes, new choreography and sound effects set to more than 70,000 color-changing LED bulbs.
- Displays extend to the Skyline Garden, where the Flower Walk will be immersed in an all-white light tunnel leading to the Skylights Lounge, featuring a deejay, cash bars and fireside comfy seating.
- Hanging out throughout the Garden will be several creatures from Alice’s Wonderland, including the towering White Rabbit and other sculptures, all either wrapped in lights or dramatically uplit.
- Take the hassle out of fighting Midtown traffic and limited onsite parking by taking advantage of a new shuttle system for easier access to the show.
Garden Lights, Holiday Nights is open nightly through January 11, 2020, from 5 pm – 11 pm.
