Join the Great Backyard Bird Count! February 18-21, 2022

February 4, 2022

Become a citizen scientist this weekend, February 18-21, 2022. The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is a free, fun, and easy event. Participants (young and old) are asked to count birds and then report the number to give an accurate and real-time snapshot of our bird populations. Bird watching is a safe and fun activity to enjoy with your family during the pandemic. Practice social distancing and wear a mask when birding around others, not in your group.

Our community has several bird counting events that you can also join and help out our birds. You can even go out in your own backyard and count birds for a minimum of 15 minutes and then report your findings at www.birdcount.org!

It doesn't matter if you recognize the birds, all that matters is that you count them and submit the data. You can spend as little as fifteen minutes counting the birds. Where should you count the birds?

  • Count the birds visiting your bird feeder
  • Take a walk through your neighborhood count the birds
  • Go on a drive and count the birds
  • Just count the birds!!

We love spending time outdoors as a family, exploring nature and amazing wildlife. Visit the Georgia Audubon website for a list of birding sites around Georgia!
