Meet the Mascot Day & Special Pop Up Exhibit

By Center for Puppetry Arts June 25, 2021

Yes, mascots are puppets and we're featuring them in a special pop-up exhibit opening this Sunday! To celebrate, join us for a special event: Meet the Mascot Day. Learn about mascots and see them in our collections. Then, meet the BRAVES mascot, Blooper, for a selfie and grab a hot dog from Mason's Hot Dogs.

All exhibits and on-site events are FREE with your museum admission.

The Center is thrilled to be presenting a new special exhibit in our Dean Dubose Smith Gallery, Masterpiece of Puppetry: Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. We will also be having special events and pop-up exhibits across the season.  Scroll down for more information.

The Worlds of Puppetry Museum includes two galleries: the Global Collection Gallery and the Jim Henson Gallery.  The Global Collection Gallery begins in North America and winds its way through Europe, Africa, and Asia. Learn the five main types of puppets; learn about some of the world’s most important puppetry traditions.

The Jim Henson Collection Gallery explores the imaginative mind of animator, inventor, film-maker, screenwriter, and puppeteer Jim Henson. Explore his life, career and legacy while viewing his iconic creations. The Jim Henson Gallery features many Muppets including those from Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, and Fraggle Rock.  The gallery also includes figures from The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and more. The Center is home to the world’s largest collection of Jim Henson puppets, props, and costumes.

We will be using timed ticketing to ensure low density and social distancing inside the Museum for the safety of our visitors and staff.  When you click on the BUY TICKETS button it will reveal all of the times that are available to visit. Last entrance is at 4pm.

Believe it or not, mascots are puppets. Former Atlanta Braves mascot, Homer, will be on display and ready for photo-ops in our atrium. Help the Center celebrate summer, the baseball season, and the world of body puppetry. After you check out the pop-up exhibit, make sure to visit other body puppets on view in the Jim Henson Collection Gallery and Global Collection Gallery.

While you're visiting, don't forget to check out the Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Exhibit and many other summer events at the Center for Puppetry Arts!
