October 24, 2024

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) will host its third annual, free Día de los Muertos Festival on Saturday, November 2, from noon to 5 pm at The Woodruff Arts Center.

The family-friendly festival is open to the public and will include live mariachi music and dancers, ofrendas, stilt walkers, interactive photo booths, and a children’s area with face painting, storytelling, and games with prizes.

While most of the activities will be ongoing, there will be a few performances throughout the afternoon. Atlanta Symphony Orchestra violinist Juan R. Ramírez Hernández will perform twice with Mariachi Pepe Lopez at 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm. Other events include:

  • Horse exhibition by Rancho Los Gallos de Oro with Andalusian and Friesian Stallions.
  • Storyteller Camille will tell tales about Dia de los Muertos in Spanish and English.
  • Dance performances by Grupo Folklorico Itzamatul and Latin Just Dance

Local Mexican American community organizations and vendors will be on-site with food trucks with traditional food and drinks available for purchase. All festival activities will take place either outside on Callaway Plaza or inside the lobby of the Memorial Arts Building.

Later that evening, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will present Ghostbusters in Concert, featuring a screening of the timeless classic with the musical score performed live to the film. This year will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film’s release. The concert will be led by conductor Thiago Tiberio.

While admission to the festival is free, tickets are required for the Ghostbusters in Concert performances. Tickets can be purchased at aso.org and ticketmaster.com

This event is sponsored by Graphic Packaging, whose support helps bring this celebration to life.
