City of Brookhaven Honors Veterans

By City of Brookhaven November 5, 2024

In tribute to all veterans of the armed services, the City of Brookhaven will host its first Veterans Day ceremony on November 11, 2024 at 9 a.m. at Langford Park, located at 1174 Pine Grove Ave.

“Those who choose to defend our country, whether in times of peace or struggle, make tremendous sacrifices and are generally under-appreciated,” said District 3 Council Member Madeliene Simmons. “It is important to remember our veterans for the work they do and the services they have rendered to protect our freedoms at home and abroad.”

”We must never forget the sacrifices that brave men and women have made to preserve our peace, and maintain our safety and way of life. I ask all residents of Brookhaven to take time out on Veterans Day to honor them and say ‘thank you for protecting our civil liberties and freedom’. Our veterans have earned our respect every day of the year, but especially on Veterans Day,” said Mayor John Park

Langford Park is a tribute to Robert C. “Bob” Langford, a fallen local war hero who was lost in Vietnam half a century ago. The land once belonged to the Langford family and is now dedicated to the members of the armed services who lost their lives in combat.  The park opened to Brookhaven residents in June 2023.

The brief ceremony will feature a formal presentation of colors by the Brookhaven Police Honor Guard, a tribute to veterans, and activities for children.
